Favorite benchmark/Hero WOD and why:

I personally enjoy the workout "Glen," which we perform at CFE every 4th of July. It's a simple, eloquent and rugged test of both physical fitness and mental fortitude, but it's also the last Hero workout that Pat Terrin tackled at CFE before his untimely passing. I will forever remember our high-five on the first run as he proudly stated that he stuck with 135lbs on his barbell for the 30 clean and jerks that start the workout. He weight that same amount, and never thought for a second to drop the weight because it was too heavy. I remember that moment each and every year. 

Favorite book:

I have many, but my current favorite is called "Vagabonding" by Rolf Potts, as it captures and portrays everything one would need in order to travel the world living out of a backpack; something that has appealed to me since childhood. 

Favorite activity/hobby outside of CrossFit:

Anything outdoors that stimulates a sense of adventure and excitement. I am perpetually addicted to feeling tiny and alive.

What does CrossFit mean to you?

So much, its hard to explain. Basically, it means freedom; from decay, decrepitude, disease and possessing the ability to enjoy live without restrictions for as long as my mind will allow.

One piece of advice for someone new to CrossFit:

Embrace the journey; it’s a long and lovely road.
